Now that their eyes are open, the little munchkins are about to discover a whole new world. They seem to look at everything with amazement. They are starting to play with each other and with toys and they are starting to GRRRR and growl.
The puppies are starting to walk like pros. It won't be long before they are running and playing. They have their own language too. Some of the sounds that come from them make Wilma, me, and even Kramer jump. They are so cute!
There have been a lot of consistencies between Wilma's two litters. Both times the vet counted 10 puppies, both times she delivered eleven puppies, both deliveries lasted about 6 1/2 hours, both litters had one puppy much smaller than the rest, and both of the smaller puppies had the red collar (Hugo and now Rudy). But not all her consistencies are good things. We are now at the two week mark and Wilma is losing energy again. Today the vet found Wilma has mastitis and anemia, two of the same illnesses she had last time. Both were caught much earlier this time and she's on medication, so I hope she heals quickly.
The puppies had some special visitors today, their human great-great-Grandma and great-great Aunt Rosemary. Wilma greeted them with lots of smiles, then went into the nursery as if to show off her puppies.
Grandma liked playing with all 11 puppies! 
(Visiting doesn't officially start for another coulple weeks but grandma's get special priviledges.)
One of my favorite things to watch the puppies do is nurse (of course they don't do much else right now.) They get so excited that their tails quiver with happiness.
munchkins already fit into their little dog collars! They look so cute and YEAH, no more fraying ric rac ribbon!! Rudy still has some growing to do beofore she'll fit into her collar. 
The puppies got a cozy new bed from Flurry. (I think Flurry had some help from her mom.) Wilma didn't get that the bed was for the pups and snuggled right in it! When the pups were in it, Wilma looked at me like she was saying "What are they doing in MY bed?" But she learned to share.
Miss Red or Rudy (all the puppies have a reindeer name this time) is not keeping up with her siblings. She is very small. She started life at 1 lb 1 oz, then dropped to 15 oz. She stayed there for a couple days, then slowly gained to 1 lb 4 oz. But then she stopped. Last night I bottle fed her some puppy formula and gave her some alone time with Wilma. We did the same this morning, at lunchtime and after work. It must be helping because tonight she weighed in at 1 lb 5 oz. Still much smaller than the others, but at least she gained some weight. Wilma and I will be keeping an eye on her.
This is the box the puppies go into when I clean the whelping box. I think I'll be needing a bigger box real soon!

Uncle Kramer has been much more interested in the puppies this time around. He's tried to get into the whelping box with Wilma and babies several times. And Wilma lets him. I think she wants the help!
On whelping day, I put Kramer in the bedroom, to keep him out of the way. He barked the whole time! When we let him outside, he stood by the window looking in. We finally just let him free in the house. He was a good boy and stayed out of the way. Most of the time he was curled up on his couch.However. it's not all been comfortable!
