We Have Puppies!

I've suspected it for the past 5 days now, but it was confirmed today when my vet felt a couple small puppy fetuses! He said there were probably more but they were small and hard to find. And at this point, all that is important to know is if she's pregnant, and she is!

Up untill a few days ago, Wilma showed no signs of being pregnant. But all of a sudden she became very "nippley", really hungry, extra tired, a little grumpy and more clingy, if that's even possible.

Wilma's due date is December 31st. Happy New Year Puppies!

Does She Look Pregnant?

I keep rubbing Wilma's tummy and asking her if she has any puppies growing in there. She looks at me like I'm crazy, then lays back and enjoys the tummy rub.
It's still 2 weeks from her vet appointment, when we'll know for sure. But I think she has that special glow about her. Although sometimes, I don't think she's sure about being a mom again. She seems to have a worried look.

A Day in Holland

Kramer and I headed to Grand Rapids today to pick Wilma up from Paws HQ. I missed my girl and I think she missed me too....she was so happy to see me she grinned from ear to ear. Dr. Jeanne said everyone got a kick out of Wilma's grinning. While at HQ, I also got to meet Laker. What a handsome boy he is! These should be awesome puppies.

Afterwards we drove to Holland for the day to visit my friend Lora. We went to the state park, walked out on the pier and posed in front of Big Red. Then we took a walk on a nature trail. It was a perfect fall day to spend outside and at the lake, even if Wilma didn't get to swim.

Kramer and I will begin his new career as a therapy dog team by working with a girl scout who is doing a therapy dog project for her Gold Award. We will be visiting a nursing home in Chelsea.

Meet the Daddy

The plan is to breed Wilma to Laker!

Laker is show dog thru Annabar Labradors in Allendale, Michigan. His full name is CH AnnaBar Louie Laker.

Laker has produced several Paws litters including Ruby's "A" litter, Jamie's "K" litter, Lexie's "M" litter, Martini's "O" litter, and the upcoming Gilly litter due in early November. He's been a busy boy!

Paws Mom Dogs

Wilma and I met some of the other Paws mom dogs and their families. Chocolate lab Gilly, black lab Jamie, and goldens Bongo and Partner. Hope's family was there too, but Hope stayed home. What a wonderful group of dogs these girls are!

Treat time!

Gilly's big brother Aspen (black lab) and Jamie's little brother Doug (yellow lab) were there too.

Gilly had the "G" litter in February, 8 puppies born just before Wilma's "H"s. Gilly was bred recently and will find out soon if she has puppies. Her mom thinks it'll be a Yes.

In March,Partner had her 10 "J" puppies. The letter "I" was skipped since Partner had 10 puppies and "I" is a harder letter to come up with good puppy names. Partner is in season again, but it's her off season so she will not be bred. She deserves a break.

Next in March was Jamie and her special "K"s. Jamie is due again in 2 weeks but doesn't look it at all!

Bongo had her first litter in May, 10 "P" puppies. Wilma and Bongo are still waiting to come into season again and the plan is to breed them both.

Hope is in season now too. That's why she was at home. (I stole this pic of her off the MyFamily Paws puppy site.)

The dogs all had a good time and were very well behaved. Lots more puppies on the way for Paws!

Reunited with Harvard and Halo

Wilma and I had a mini-family reunion Friday night at Ikea when we met Harvard and Halo. Both pups are adorable. Wilma didn't seem interested in them at all. Harvard was interested in Wilma, so maybe he knew it was mom. One thing both pups were definitely interested in was getting out of their gentle leaders!

Halo

Halo was Wilma's surprise puppy, number 11. She had the rainbow colored collar. She has the same darker color that Wilma has and looks so much like her mom. Halo recently dressed up for a Smooch the Pooch booth at an Art Festival, to raise money for Paws. Who could resist smooching that face!

Wilma also worked a Smooch the Pooch booth when she was about 4 months old.

Harvard

Harvard was Wilma's yellow puppy. He's grown into a handsome boy, a little lighter in color than Wilma. He's a wiggler too, just like him mom!

He's going through a counter surfing phase and when his raiser used a mouse trap to scare him away from the counter, after it snapped, Harvard picked it up and brought it to him. What a good retreiver!

Bark in the Park

The Animal Placement Bureau in Lansing, where I adopted Kramer, had their annual Bark in the Park fundraiser. Wilma really enjoyed the Dancing Dog demo and Kramer got to march in the Parade of Rescues. Both Wilma and Kramer joined in on the many contests and games. Unfortunately, although both are tennis ball freaks at home, they would not touch a tennis ball in the kiddie pool tennis ball game. I think if the pool had water in it, Wilma would have won. But she doesn't know what to do in a dry pool. Wilma had the slowest time through the obstacle course and Kramer was probably second slowest, although both of them made it through. Kramer would not bark during the barking contest, yet spent the whole picnic time barking at other dogs. They wouldn't jump for the jumping contest, but Wilma tried to jump on the picnic table during lunch. And neither won the cutest dog contest, but in my eyes they were the 2 cutest dogs there. Oh well, they had a great time and we did win a participant prize...home made dog treats! They were happy pups!

Honey

Honey was Wilma's Hot Pink Puppy. She was one of the fuzziest of Wilma's pups. She lives in Midland now, with her puppy raiser Kim Dankert and family. Some of her adventures include trips to Dow Gardens and crossing a very wobbly bridge over the Rifle River. Honey does the upside down golden wiggle, just like her mom!
